BUGUIAS, Benguet — Operation Blessing, the first NGO to respond to the needs of typhoon Pepeng victims in this town, took the extra mile to deliver God’s love through a medical mission and trauma counseling in this part of the Cordilleras.

No Mountain Too HighPepeng caused landslides in different villages in Buguias, claiming 28 lives and displaced hundreds of families.

Aniano Madino, 63, of Sharp Curve village was traumatized by the tragic death of his three helpers. He witnessed with his own eyes how ravaging mud from the mountains covered their house instantly.

“That night, all I have in mind was to save my wife and my five children,” Aniano said. “I tried to save my helpers sleeping at the servants’ quarters, but it was too late. The entire house was already filled with mud.”

“More than the relief goods and medicines, these hurting people are in need of God’s love,” said Wendell Asuncion, an Operation Blessing doctor, as he ministered to patients at the medical mission.

“I feel at peace the moment I talked with the OB volunteer counselor. It’s as if God is talking to me, saying that everything will be fine, that we are safe in His hands,” said Helen, 49, Aniano’s wife. The memory of that tragic night kept knocking on her head, causing her to have sleepless nights.

No Mountain Too High“After the prayer, the counselor embraced me. I felt relieved. I know that it was a tangible comfort from God. He brought you here in our place to be a vessel of His love,” she said gratefully.

Everything Aniano and Helen owned was totally destroyed, but this couple found a new life with the Lord who owns everything.

“Me and my wife are still hopeful for the future ahead of us. I know that God is a father, and a father always wants the best for His children,” Aniano said, with confidence that God will see him through.

“He keeps us alive. That’s a great reason for us to look up and just hold on to Him.”

Residents of Buguias were blessed for what they received from Operation Blessing, in the same way that OB is thankful to be of God’s use to deliver His love.
